Important

No hair type is better than another. Every hair type is beautiful. You can have 2 or 3 hair types on your head. Your hair type is your natural hair without chemical treatment. No hair type grows faster than another. Hair types 2A-4A can be blow-dried straight and styled using a flat iron. Hair types 3B-4B shrink. Shrinkage means your hair is longer when wet and becomes shorter as it dries.

“Mixed hair” can mean hair type 1 through 4B. A hair type has nothing to do with your skin color, but everything to do with your genes.

Do you sell relaxer products for children?

We do not sell products to relax children's hair because we believe these products are dangerous for children's hair that is still developing. We advise against buying a product just because there is a picture of a child on it; that is pure marketing. We ensure that the products we sell meet the high standards required for coily hair products. We are very selective in the products we sell. The products we carry are kid-friendly.

How do you care for your hair in the winter?

As winter approaches, it means a change in our hair care habits.

The cold makes the hair very dry at the scalp. The hair is therefore more vulnerable during this time and tends to split easily.

Especially straightened or relaxed hair. The winter months can be devastating for our hair, so it is very important to be proactive.

Below are some tips to help you care for your hair during these winter months.

Whether your hair is natural or relaxed/straightened.

Protect your hair from the cold!

- Wear a scarf or hat over the hair.

- Choose hairstyles with additions such as braids or weaves that provide extra protection for your hair during the winter months. Extensions also provide protection!

Moisturize the hair!

The cold causes excessive dryness of the hair, so we must replenish the moisture. Moisturize and nourish the hair more frequently.

TIPS

• Choose a good moisturizing hair care product that does not contain mineral oils such as paraffin, petrolatum, SLS, or SLES. These cause additional dryness.

• Use a gentle shampoo and conditioner rich in proteins to strengthen the hair.

• Apply a strengthening nourishing mask once a week, especially on the ends of the hair, as they are more vulnerable there.

• Spray every day with a moisturizer consisting of mineral water, glycerin, essential oil, and vegetable oil. (Mizani H2O, Coconut Soufflé, or Butter Rich products are also excellent!)

Strengthen your hair

Drink plenty of water to adequately hydrate the hair from within. The capillary fiber must be nourished with sulfur, iron, zinc, protein, and B vitamins. Foods containing these include eggs and lentils. If you cannot get these through food, you can follow a three-month course of supplements such as brewer's yeast or supplements rich in plant actives, zinc, and vitamin B.

If your hair is braided

Synthetic braids cover the hair with a chemical substance that also causes the hair to become dry. This is often underestimated. You can reduce hair dryness by spraying it every day with a braid spray. (A good example of a leave-in conditioner: Taliah Waajid - Protective Mist Bodifier)

If you have a weave/extensions

This hair also needs to retain moisture and should be sprayed regularly with a hydrating spray. An excellent care product for this is: Silk by Mizani or Design Essentials (there are other brands too).

What is a keratin treatment?

A keratin treatment is a treatment where the hair is made straight and manageable. This happens because the keratin used during the treatment nourishes the hair with proteins that ensure the hair becomes healthier, straighter, and easier to handle. In a keratin treatment, the protein keratin, which occurs naturally in the human body (e.g., in nails, skin, and hair), is applied to the hair. The keratin then penetrates to the core of the hair during the treatment, making the hair stronger, shinier, more flexible, healthier, and straighter.

Our keratin contains NO formaldehyde.

Care tips for hair extensions

Wearing a weave/extensions is perfect if you want longer hair and/or more volume. Naturally, you want to enjoy your extensions for a long time. Unfortunately, people often overlook that care differs from that of your own hair. The hair is no longer nourished by the natural oils that normally come from the scalp. Therefore, the care method differs from how we care for our own hair. Do you want to keep your extensions in good condition for long-lasting enjoyment? These tips can help:

TIPS

Brush carefully

• Use the correct brush. When brushing, the brush should glide smoothly through the hair. Ensure you don't pull too hard on the hair extensions. Use a brush with large soft teeth. Brushing only applies to straight hair. NEVER brush curly extensions. Don't brush your extensions too often either, as this almost always leads to hair loss—a waste of your expensive purchase. Brushing well once a day to prevent tangles is sufficient. The hair does not grow back! Start brushing at the bottom and work your way up slowly.

• Regularly run your fingers through the hair.

• Cover your extensions with a satin sleep cap or thin cloth before going to bed, and do this every night to prevent tangling during sleep. (We sell these too!)

• Important! Braiding the hair during sports prevents it from tangling. However, be careful with braiding curly extensions!

Washing and Hydrating

• Use a shampoo and conditioner for your extensions just as you would for your own hair. Detangle the hair before you start washing. Gently massage the shampoo from top to bottom. Rinse thoroughly afterward. Dry the extensions with care, ensuring you don't rub the hair too hard. Squeeze out excess water instead of wringing it.

Overheating

• Let your extensions air dry. This is better for your hair, but if you must blow-dry, use a low setting with a diffuser. Too much heat from curling irons, blow-dryers, and straighteners damages the hair and reduces the lifespan of the extensions.

WHAT NOT TO DO!

• Tying the hair frequently in a bun or headband is not good for your extensions. It is better to wear the hair loose to avoid the risk of tangling.

How do I care for my new hairstyle?

It is best to wash your hair (and the weave) once every 2 weeks. Gently massage the shampoo between the rows with your fingertips, rinse thoroughly, and repeat twice. Use a good shampoo and conditioner. Drying is also very important! If dampness remains for too long, it can develop an odor. Always blow-dry your hair thoroughly, including the braids under the weave. Using a hood dryer is easiest, but a regular hand-dryer works too. Be careful not to use too many different hair products simultaneously, as this can lead to tangles and greasiness. For curls, you may need to wash slightly more often as products can make them greasy.

What is a weave?

Your own hair is braided onto your scalp (with cornrows). This can be done horizontally or vertically. Weave tracks are then sewn over it with thick thread. Because the thread is thick, the weave stays in place longer. How much weave hair and how it is braided depends on the style and the amount of weave hair you want. The total treatment takes about 3 hours. A good weave can be recognized by a fall as natural as possible. Naturally, the attachment secrets must not be visible. There is a choice of many types of human or synthetic hair to process. Depending on the desired style, we choose the right technique so that no one notices that additional hair has been added to your own. Multiple tracks of hair weave can also be used to supplement the natural hair volume or to replace the natural hair by covering it completely. Many hairstyles are possible, and we have several model books in the shop to choose from. With a hair weave, a completely different texture, hair color, or hair length can easily be created than you naturally have.

Reasons why hair weaves or weave hair are primarily used include:

• Changing the hair texture;

• Lengthening the natural hair volume;

• Adding volume to the natural hair volume;

• Creating a (fashion) color without a chemical treatment.

Hair weave is also easy to remove after use without causing damage to the natural hair. No chemicals or treatments are needed to create a natural look. Of course, the quality and care of the weave hair are also very important to maintain a good style in the hair weave.

The best quality hair weave is 100% human hair. Human hair weave retains the same qualities and possibilities as naturally grown hair. The weave hair can be treated like your own (natural) hair after attachment. It can be washed, blow-dried, colored, bleached, straightened, permed, and even styled with a hot iron. Human hair weave can be used for years if well-maintained. The human hair used to make hair weaves comes from human donors. The countries currently offering much human hair for the hair market are mostly Asian and South American countries like India, China, Malaysia, Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia. The hair is simply cut from a human donor. This also determines the quality of the hair weave. In terms of production, the best quality hair weave is tied before it is cut. This way, the natural direction of all hairs relative to others is maintained (Remy), which is essential for protecting the hair wave and reducing tangles. High-quality hair weave only contains hair from one human donor in the track. In cases of larger production for lower quality hair weave, hair from many people is cut, swept together, and put into production. This way of gathering weave hair is used for lower quality hair weave products. In one hair weave track, you will find hair from different donors, and the hairs lie in both natural and opposite directions, causing the hair to tangle quickly and be less protected from external influences. These are reasons why there are sometimes huge price differences between suppliers. Afro Curls Beauty Salon buys at the source and only delivers the best quality. How many tracks you need for your hair weave depends on the desired result. A guideline:

• supplementing own hair: 2-3 tracks

• full head weaving: 8-10 tracks

• extra full hair volume: 12-15 tracks

Is weaving harmful to my own hair?

No, this treatment is not harmful to your own hair at all. Your own hair is braided onto the head and the weave is sewn over it. With normal treatment or combing of your weave hair, there is no problem. In fact, braiding your own hair makes it grow faster, provided it is not braided too tightly.

In what ways can you attach the weave hair?

If you have a full head weave, all your own hair is braided away, and the weave is sewn over it. You only see the weave hair, so you don’t have to do anything with your own hair anymore. With the weave, you can create a part, bangs, or a side-fringe and of course style any model. Depending on the model, you can do this with 2 to 3 packs of weave hair.

You can also weave your whole head but choose to cut bangs with your own hair at the front. Or create a middle part with your own hair so it falls naturally over the weave. This looks beautiful but only if your own hair matches the weave hair. The differences must not be too large. For this, you need 1.5 to 2 packs.

Of course, filling in or extending your own hair with weave hair is also possible. Here, the hairpieces are sewn at the bottom of your hair to a few braided tracks, so your own hair falls naturally over them. This is a supplement for your own hair and is often used for thinning hair volume. One pack is usually enough for this.

Can you use weave for all hair types?

Yes, it can be applied to all hair types. But if you want it for filling in, it’s obviously nicer if the weave hair matches your own hair, otherwise it will be noticeable. Weave hair is available in almost all styles and colors. Genuine hair is more expensive than artificial hair but lasts much longer. Ultimately, you can be cheaper off with real hair. We sell the best quality real hair!

How long does the hair stay in place when I weave it?

The hair stays in place for an average of 2 to 3 months, sometimes even 4, but after 3 months the braids start to loosen as your hair naturally grows. The weave hair can simply be reused! It is therefore a large initial investment but cheaper in the long run than artificial hair.

Where do good types of weave hair come from?

Indian weave hair

India is the largest exporter of weave hair. Indian hair is of very good quality due to its fine and strong structure. The hair is oval-shaped, soft, shiny, and has a natural subtle wave. Because it curls and straightens very easily, it is very popular, just like Brazilian hair. The natural curl is very suitable for African and Caribbean hair types. The thin hair strands share many similarities with the thin density of hair of African descent. However, women with a European background also use Indian hair. Due to its softness, Indian hair is most similar to European hair of all Asian countries.

Chinese weave hair

China, like India, is a major weave hair exporter in Asia. The structure of Chinese hair is thick, coarse, and stiff. Particularly in the wet Netherlands, it stays straight even when damp. Chinese hair is thicker than any other type. Chinese hair is recommended for European hair types because its straight appearance clearly matches European hair. It is often offered as Asian hair.

Malaysian weave hair

The structure of this hair is thicker than Indian hair, but thinner, less stiff, and less straight than Chinese hair. Malaysian hair also has a healthy natural shine that is long-lasting. It is very suitable for European hair types and mixed-descent hair types.

Brazilian weave hair

This is the most popular human hair used for hair weaves. The good reputation of Brazilian weave hair is evident from its frequent use by celebrities. The quality is unique: the structure is strong but feels very soft at the same time. Brazilian hair is not completely straight but has a naturally thick curl that provides a natural look. Most straight Brazilian hair textures are primarily suitable for European hair types, while the curlier textures fit well with African, Caribbean, and mixed hair textures.

Synthetic weave hair

Hair weave is not only made from human hair. It can also consist of plastic materials based on synthetic fibers. Hence the term 'synthetic hair'. Synthetic weave hair is of lower quality than human hair, so it stays beautiful for a shorter time and cannot be reused as long. It gets damaged more quickly and cannot be treated as well. For example, it gets damaged easily when washed or exposed to a heat source such as a blow-dryer or iron. Certain hair care products can also damage the material. Because synthetic hair is much cheaper than human hair, it can be used for financial reasons or for shorter periods. Although the quality has improved in recent years, the difference from natural hair remains visible: it is stiffer, moves less naturally, and can look unnatural under certain light angles. Unfortunately, a lot of synthetic hair is sold as human hair. A small flame can quickly reveal if the hair melts or smells like natural hair when burned.
